Hello and Welcome
Hello and welcome to the fifth issue of the tExtended newsletter.
This newsletter is published on LinkedIn every six months. It aims to share an overview of project developments, events and news, and give information on the next steps we are about to take.
This newsletter is published two years and a half after the start of the project activities; below are the tExtended project highlights in the last six months.
tExtended has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme under Grant Agreement No.101091575.
What’s new with tExtended?
In January, midway through our research and innovation work, we have issued a press release to highlight the start of the second phase of project work, where we continue developing the Conceptual Framework, a knowledge-based solution that targets the retention of quality. but also preparing for testing it in an Industrial-Urban symbiosis collaborative real scale demonstrator.

Following up the work mentioned in the press release, our joint efforts in the technology development and preparing for testing readiness brought us to reach our fourth milestone, a significant step in the project development. More specifically, the joint efforts of the project partners have brought us to reach a significant development in identification and pre-processing technologies for textile waste, on the readiness for upscaling of innovative recycling processes, and on textile waste classification. In addition, the work on the Conceptual Framework has progressed to the point of readiness of testing, and the planning of the real scale demonstrator has been completed.
Please read more information on all these processes on our website:
We met for the fifth time in May 2025, hosted by Lounais-Suomen Jätehuolto Oy (LSJH) in Turku, in Finland, at Forum Marinum. This meeting has been an occasion for the partners to share updates on the work and plan the collaboration on the upcoming activities about the real scale demonstrators. Participation
On March 30th we celebrated the International Day of Zero Waste, which this year was focused on zero waste in fashion and textiles. Our partners Green Liberty | Zaļā brīvība have prepared for the occasion a list of useful tips on how to do an inventory of your wardrobe, and rediscover items instead of buying new ones:

Networking
In the last six months we have increased our efforts in expanding our network and knowledge outside of tExtended: especially, we have been increasing the connections with our Community of Practitioners, which aims to bring wider industrial and technological experience to complement the project consortium and to support it. You can find more information and how to join it here: tExtended Community of Practitioners
In March we ran our second webinar, in which we have had an introduction to AIMPLAS · Instituto Tecnológico del Plástico, one of our project partners, and their role in tExtended, followed by a discussion by Centexbel on the our report on Redesigning Value Chains, and we had an example of a circular textile model and its product on the market prepared by Utexbel. To close the webinar, the project CISUTAC has been presented, with its results and scenarios for the future.
In June we have hosted a third webinar, where we have listened to the work from Purfi in tExtended about transforming waste into resources, a description of development of separate collection and EPR in Latvia discussed by Green Liberty | Zaļā brīvība , and a perspective on the role of logistics in a project like tExtended presented by Tekologistik to close the webinar.

Future events
tExtended will be hosting the workshop “Building a collaborative circular textile system” at the 3rd ECOSYSTEX conference, on 29 September – 1 October in Gothenburg, Sweden. In this interactive session the public will be called to engage with the project’s preliminary results, and the feedback obtained will be used to validate assumptions and expand insights into circularity scenarios, policy trade-offs, and key challenges in building a sustainable, circular textile system.
You can register to the conference here: https://ecosystex-conference-2025.b2match.io/
tExtended will be present also at Circular Textile Days! The event will take place on 10-11 September in s’Hertogenbosch, in the Netherlands, and it is a business event that offers a great opportunity for meeting new partners in the sustainable textile business and for discovering and discussing innovative circular textile solutions. You can find various tExtended partners present at the event, and also a booth where we will showcase some of the results we have reached so far. Come and see our samples!
